Possible Drug Interactions
Drug interactions are when one drug or medicine interferes with the action of another taken at the same time, usually by enhancing or decreasing its effect. Here are a few interactions common to calcium carbonate tablets:
- Aspirin: calcium carbonate may decrease the effects of aspirin.
- Antibiotics: calcium carbonate has been shown to interact with the effects of some antibiotics, including tetracycline antibiotics such as doxycycline and minocycline, as well as quinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin. Consult with your doctor about possible interactions when being prescribed antibiotics.
- Synthroid (levothyroxine): calcium carbonate may decrease the effects of levothyroxine. Doses should be taken at least 4 hours apart.
