First Aid Cabinets for Hotels

If you run a hotel, you have a responsibility to provide first aid supplies to treat guests and employees.

As a hotel manager, your primary goal is to make sure your guests enjoy their stay at your establishment, but you also have a responsibility to keep both your customers and your employees safe and healthy. Injuries can occur at any time. Whether they are a result of negligence, accidents, or reckless behavior on the part of guests or employees, you need to be prepared for the reality that they will happen. Your hotel should have first aid cabinets fully stocked and placed in strategic locations so that employees can react quickly when someone is hurt.

Be Prepared for Injuries and Medical Problems

All kinds of accidents could happen at a hotel. A guest might slip and fall, which could result in a minor injury, such as a skinned knee, or something much more serious, such as a broken bone or concussion. Your staff should be prepared to treat minor problems and provide first aid for more serious injuries until an ambulance arrives.

If guests explore nature in the area surrounding your hotel, they could return with insect bites, cuts, scrapes, or sunburn. A customer could also have a simple and common complaint, such as a headache or indigestion. Be prepared to offer relief with over-the-counter medications so a guest in need can avoid an unexpected and potentially time-consuming trip to a local store or pharmacy and can get back to relaxing.

Employees, particularly those who handle maintenance and landscaping or work in a restaurant, may become injured on the job. They could cut or burn themselves or be hurt by malfunctioning or incorrectly used equipment. Workers who have a high risk of being injured on the job should have ready access to first aid cabinets.

Necessary First Aid Supplies and Training

A first aid cabinet for a hotel should include an assortment of bandages, gauze, scissors, adhesive tape, pain relievers, treatments for indigestion and insect bites, tweezers, latex gloves, splints, and triangular bandages. If your hotel is not located within a few minutes drive of a hospital, it is a good idea to have at least one automated external defibrillator (AED) on site so staff can provide immediate assistance to a guest or employee who experiences a heart attack. Quick action could mean the difference between life and death.

Staff at the hotel should know the locations of first aid supplies and should be trained in when and how to use them. Regular first aid and CPR classes should be provided so that all employees are able to provide help when it is needed.
